Well well last night…..

December 8, 2008

Well the countdown is over, the night arrived and I must say I was so nervous all of yesterday, In can’t believe that I have done it, my first proper gig , in front of paying customers! , the whole evening was a success, from start to finish. I was on towards the end of the variety show. I was very worried i must tell you, the show was reaching the last half hour and the crowd had started to lose a bit of effort.

Everything from Perverts to Barack Obama, nothing was off limits. I must also use this blog to ask anyone who came last night, if they would like to write a review I would be very interested to read it.

Well I wont ruin it for you, but I will tell you that I will have the live 10 mintue slot, on this very blog Wednesday morning. I would like to take this chance to say thank you to everyone involed, but a special mention to Richard Bishop and Tim Robinson , who were my film crew for the evening.

I will be back on stage soon , but please leave me some comments on my video , because without you laughing at me, I cant be a success. So if you dont like a joke , tell me.

I will also warn everyone two days in advance, my video is very offensive and also contains bad language from the start. You have been warned.

Carr in trouble for his ‘shannonigans’

December 8, 2008

I really should have mentioned this is my last post, but Alan Carr made a name for himself on Saturday night , but for all the wrong reasons, the gooffy comic has been branded ‘sick’ for dedicating his award for best comedy personality to Karen Matthews.

Apparently his joke was poorly timed after the mother of Shannon Matthews was only sentenced last week.

When collecting his award the comic said that he had originally planned his Celebrity Ding Dong sketch to feature rough women not fashionistas.

“It didn’t work out because they couldn’t cast it. I suppose it is a bit difficult to find rough women. I suppose Shannon Matthew’s mum was busy,” he said.

“Oh yeah, she would be my dream guest. I think she’s a gay icon. People like a bit of rough don’t they?”

Carr added: “I must be obsessed with her actually if you look at my Google searches. So I should dedicate this award to her.”

I am sorry , but i know what he said was in poor taste but he is a comedian, he is there to push the envelope, to make people laugh and I am certain that he meant no harm in his comment. It seems since that phone call, everything that comics say and do is being watched and anyone who slips is being punished, I would like to take this chance to say that comics in the 70′s and 80′s were a lot worse. Nothing was off limits.

Alan has done the right thing in saying sorry, because he is not a horrible person and he would like to have a career , i mean for heaven’s sake he had just won an award! But i just wish that some people would jump off this band wagon and start realising that their is nothing wrong with a good laugh.

P.S tell me anything he said that was that offensive other than to a woman who has just been found guilty for kidnapping her own daughter.

The British comedy awards….Oh Alan!

December 8, 2008

Well last saturday saw the most important night in the comedy calender, the British comedy awards. The evening that brings together and celebrates the best that Britain and the world has to offer in terms of comedy.

The night was hosted by Angus Deayton after Jonathan Ross pulled out because of him and Russell’s famous phone call. I must say that i am a massive fan of these nights, the chance to see so many comedians in one room is incredible and it is somewhere that I would love to be in a few years time.

The only problem that i had with the whole evening was the host, Angus in my opinion has become almost wooden and boring in his style of joke telling. I know that he is meant to come across as very dry and sarcastic, but i personally feel that after all the hassle that British comedy has been through, we needed to see someone up there who could make everyone laugh and feel good about the array of talent.

Instead we had Angus making guest hosts looking stupid and making you almost cringe everytime he opened his mouth.

Mention of the night had to go to Russell Brand , who wasnt at the awards but instead was working with Adam Sandler in America on their new movie  ‘Bedtime stories’ , who during his speech for his award for best stand up, thanked Jonathan Ross, the room laughed but i think it was more a polite chuckle followed by a room wide groan.

Well here at student giggles, i wanted to bring you the list of the winners:

Best Television Comedy Actor
Ricky Gervais – Extras Christmas Special

Best Television Comedy Actress
Sharon Horgan – Pulling

Best Comedy Entertainment Programme
Harry Hill’s TV Burp

Best TV Comedy Drama
Drop Dead Gorgeous

Best Live Stand-Up
Russell Brand

Best New British Comedy Programme
The Inbetweeners

Best TV ComedyCast of Gavin and Stacy
Gavin and Stacey

Simon Bird – The Inbetweeners

Best Female Comedy Newcomer
Katy Brand – Katy’s Big Ass Show

Lifetime Achievement Award
Jasper Carrott

The Writer’s Guild Ronnie Barker Award

The only award that i had any real opinion on was the winner of best new comedy female, i am sorry but Katy Brand is not funny, she does rubbish impressions and isnt funny at all.

well until next year, where hopefully I can make a name for myself, well i can dream cant I.

I love I.T!

November 30, 2008

Just a quick message really, I was sat watching tv with my housemate on Friday night and after watching the usual crap television like we do , we came across nothing to watch at 10pm. Now I know what your thinking, and let me just say , i have no money and thats why i wasnt out on the piss on a Friday night like any other student my age.

Wll anyway, we decided to give the IT crowd a view, now i must admit i have never watched it before, and i didnt quite know what to expect from it. Let me just tell you its fantastic. It focuses around two IT workers at a company who are nerds and spend there time on the internet. And i seriously loved it. The writing is witty and not to over powering, the jokes are funny and even the canned laughter doesnt put you off.

Here is a clip from the first season

Prison is no joke

November 23, 2008

Saw this story and it made me smile:

Whitemoor prison
The comedy classes were said to boost team work

The justice minister has ordered the cancellation of a comedy workshop for prisoners at a top security jail.

The course, which started on Monday at Whitemoor Prison in Cambridgeshire, was supposed to run for eight days.

Jack Straw, Secretary of State for Justice, described the course as “totally unacceptable”.

“Senior managers in the prison service, who were also unaware of the course, take the same view as me,” Mr Straw added in a statement.

‘Ramifications outside’

Comedy classes, which organisers say boost team work and communication skills, have been available at the prison since 1998.

Mr Straw said: “Prisons should be places of punishment and reform, and providing educational, training and constructive pursuits is an essential part of this.

“But the types of courses available, and the manner in which they are delivered must be appropriate in every prison.

“What happens inside the prison gates has ramifications outside, on victims and their families, and on taxpayers.

“There is a crucial test: can the recreational, social and educational classes paid for out of taxpayers’ money (or otherwise) be justified to the community?”

Breaking news…… well not really

November 23, 2008

First of all an apology, i have not had chance to update my blog in a while, i have been so busy trying to sort out my stand up and my course that i havent stopped by, well here i am and may i start with the good news, the stand up gig has been moved back a week. Thats right after all the nerves and excitment i was told that my services wont be needed for another week.

This of course is great news, i was confident that if i was needed on the 29th i could have been, but it has been changed to the 7th december. So still buy your tickets for what will be a great night.

I have now been writing for the last couple of weeks and have about 15 minutes of new material, but i wont ruin it for anyone , you will just have to wait for the big night.

Breaking news…… American Inbetweeners

November 11, 2008

It has been confirmed that 2010 will see the second series of the Inbetweeners. But it has now been confirmed that the show which follows 4 teeange boys trying to get laid will be remade for an American version. The show was a hidden gem that is currently being shown on Channel 4

The show is brilliant in my opinion and has 4 brilliant main characters and is brilliantly written by Iain Morris and Damian Beesley. But i am really hope that it is not ruined by an American remake. It is the first show from E4 that has made it over the pond , but dvd sales and word of mouth has caused America to take a chance.

We now must wait to see if America manages to ruin another unrated British comedy after the quite frankly awful remake of spaced.

The inbetweeners series 2 is out next year and series 1 is on dvd now.

Not long now…..

Live at the apollo to replace Ross.

November 11, 2008

michael-mcintyre_010939_1_mainpicture1

It has been Announced that Jonathan’s Ross ‘ Friday night chat show has been replaced with Live at the Apollo for the next few weeks while he serves his suspension from the BBC. The shamed TV host is currently fighting to save his career after the now famous remarks made on Russell Brand’s radio show.

Live at the Apollo, which was formerly shown on a Monday night will be hosted by Michael McIntyre, who has appeared on Mock the week and Have I got news for you.  The comic has become popular for his views on Modern Britain.

I have to say that I am a big fan of Live at the Apollo as it has show cased some very promising talent in the world of comedy, this series, which is the fourth, will run till the end of January when Ross is expected to return.  I think that it was important that the BBC didn’t lose it’s sense of humour all together and it has made the right decision in replacing like for like and not using the empty slot to just show old films.

As for the decision to have McIntyre as the host, I am unsure that this will work, I think that he is a funny comic but I feel that it would have been a chance for someone like Andy Parsons from Mock the week to step into the limelight. I just find that McIntyre often takes too long to get to a punch line and many times when I have watched him I find that I am bored of him.  However, I think that it is a great chance for him.

The show is being filmed this week and will be shown the following Friday.
