Now before you think that i am a being an idiot and trying to give out advice when i have had like 3 gigs, this is simply a section of my blog that i am using to look at how you can improve on being funny. These are tips by the legends of the business and if you have any of your own contact me on my email ct228360@student.staffs.ac.uk or leave a comment.
1. TIming is everything
This may seem a really simple piece of advice, but without timing you cannot be funny, you have to know the right time to make a stupid comment or you may be left red faced and looking a bit stupid.
2. Know your audience
By this i mean, if your first gig is at an old folks home, properly best to leave out the jokes about how your grandad smells of piss and is forgetful. You have to play to your strengths and some comics have a cheeky charm that can allow them to get away with more closer to knuckle jokes.
3. Sometimes if you think its to far just dont say it.
9/11, Maddie and rape, just some of the topics that you just cant take the mickey out of. And if you have heard a joke that simply must be repeated , keep it close friends dont use it as your opener at your first gig.
4. Dont just offend the audience
If you jokes arent working and you feel that you are losing your audience , dont start abusing them for cheap laughs, because i promise that someone will take offence , smack you and you will leave your first gig with a broken nose.
5. Be confident
If the audience is starting to get to you and you are losing it, just carry on and be confident , remember you are the one with the microphone and you are up there for a reason , to make people laugh.
6. just have fun
If you ever get the chance to perform stand up, just enjoy it , practise and be ready for anything
there some of the best ones for now , but if you have any to add just contact me and i will be happy to upload them.
